Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. is the only locally owned, licensed, bonded, and insured mechanical engineering firm in Gillette, WY. McKinley Wood, P.E. is the principal engineer and is licensed in Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. The firm was started in 1990 and specializes in HVAC and plumbing design, construction supervision, and energy audits/conservation for buildings such as schools (K-12 and higher education), office buildings, churches, medical facilities, commercial, industrial, and mining facilities, as well as energy conservation projects.
Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning has received a reputation for its excellence in design, attention to detail, and innovation in the industry. Quality in design and energy conservation are the fundamental principles at Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning. We strive to deliver the best design to meet our client’s needs and budgets. Because of our commitment to quality, our clients experience fewer problems during construction. Even though we are relatively small, we have built a strong team that can handle both small and large projects.
The design of energy-conserving mechanical systems has been the primary goal of Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning since its beginning. Even before the inception of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), we have had energy-conserving standards in place.
Powder River Heating & Air Conditioning has designed numerous HVAC systems in Campbell County and throughout the region. We have designed, repaired, upgraded, and/or installed systems for all types of buildings, from residential to complex facilities, such as the Campbell County Courthouse, large mining truck shops, and the Campbell County South Campus High School. We are experienced in applying practical energy conservation techniques. Our number one goal is for the safety, health, and comfort of the occupants. We are experienced in applying thermal energy storage systems where practical. These systems can reduce both energy and equipment costs.
We have a working knowledge of direct digital control (DDC) systems, networks, and their application. When designing such a system, we follow up to make sure it is operating as intended. We have in-depth knowledge of the programming involved in such systems. We believe a DDC system should be programmed to its maximum capability and not just be an expensive time clock. Achieving these ends requires working closely with the temperature control contractor and mechanical contractor to monitor the system for a long period of time after installation to be certain the logic is working correctly.
